Lt. Governor Candidate Deb Goldberg Announces New Additions to Campaign Teaml

Boston, MA — Deb Goldberg, Democrat for Lieutenant Governor, today announced the addition of key strategists to her campaign team. Goldberg, who served as Chair of the Brookline Board of Selectmen, has enlisted Ed Jesser, of Edward F. Jesser Associates as a senior adviser and Julian Mulvey, of the Julian Mulvey Group as the campaign’s media consultant.

“I am very pleased to have such accomplished professionals on board with our campaign,” Goldberg said. “Their expertise will be a great compliment to our staff and our growing group of supporters. I look forward to working with them and others as we travel the state, meeting with people and talking about their issues and concerns.”

Edward F. Jesser has specialized in strategic communications consulting for a variety of public and private sector clients since 1988. His political clients have included George McGovern’s presidential campaign in 1972, Jimmy Carter for President in 1976 and 1980, Paul Tsongas for President in 1992, Thomas Menino for Mayor of Boston, Dan Conley for Suffolk County DA, and Stephen Lynch for Congress. Mr. Jesser was Director of External Affairs for the President’s Reorganization Project at OMB in the White House under President Carter. Deb Goldberg, a fifth generation Massachusetts resident, has the skills and experience to help get the state moving again. Goldberg, whose family founded Stop & Shop, learned from the ground up, how to run a company with 50,000 employees that provided quality health insurance and pensions to all employees—full-timers and even part-timers – with only a 1% profit margin.

Goldberg was elected to the Brookline Board of Selectmen in 1998. As Chairman from 2002 until 2004, she was responsible for the town’s $190 million annual budget. Under her leadership in tough economic times, Brookline (population 58,000), maintained a strong financial position and was the only community in the state to add teachers, fire fighters, and police each year without costly overrides. Deb Goldberg, 52, lives in Brookline with her husband, Michael Winter, and their two teenaged children, Evan and Meredith.
