September 13, 2006 Boston, MA — Deb Goldberg, Democrat for Lieutenant Governor, received the support of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local #25 and the Suffolk County Correctional Officers, AFSCME Local #419, with the Democratic Primary fast approaching. The two groups lauded Goldberg’s history of working with labor in both the private sector and as Selectman in her own community and pledged their efforts to help her to victory on September 19th. “I am proud to accept the endorsement of both of these strong labor
groups,” Goldberg said. “We need democrats in the corner office
that are committed to reversing the trends set by the Romney-Healey administration.
They have watched as population and jobs have fled the state, the average wage
has plummeted, and the state of Massachusetts quickly becomes too expensive
for residents and future generations to afford.” “Deb Goldberg’s commitment to the safety of her community and public safety personnel made our support for her candidacy an easy decision,” Michael Simpson, President of AFSCME, Local #419 said. “Deb has the experience and determination to get this state back on the right track.” Deb Goldberg, a fifth generation Massachusetts resident, has the skills and experience to help get the state back on track. Goldberg, whose family founded Stop & Shop, learned from the ground up, how to run a company with 50,000 employees that provided quality health insurance and pensions to all employees—full-timers and even part-timers – with only a 1% profit margin. Goldberg was elected to the Brookline Board of Selectmen in 1998. As Chairman from 2002 until 2004, she was responsible for the town’s $190 million annual budget. Under her leadership in tough economic times, Brookline (population 58,000), maintained a strong financial position and was one of the few communities in the state to add teachers, fire fighters, and police each year without costly overrides. Deb Goldberg, 52, lives in Brookline with her husband, Michael Winter, and their two teenaged children, Evan and Meredith. |
